Glintt | PinPad, Pin Entering Device.
The design brief for the pin-pad project was set by the new technological requirements and new security standards for secure payment terminals. This was an opportunity to develop and design new products in the portable payment terminals segment. The goal was to design a flexible compact solution based on minimal footprint suitable for two different point of sale realities: a modular solution featuring a simple light and compact cord pin-pad and the more complex version of the same device, with battery based power supply, wireless communications and thermal printer for a wider range situations. The design concept goes in the opposite direction of the main stream cell phone type style, very common among the majority of the competitors, and sets an exclusive product design identity based on line-arc generated surfaces in a tennis ball type of volumetric intersections, which gives it a very distinctive shapely partition line style. As the design process went on, the modular solution concept blurred due to production costs, assembly complexity and manufacturing logistics considerations. Modularity was of and the new direction was to develop two different products: the standard ultra small pin-pad and the cutting-edge compact wireless full POS terminal
