Rui Sampaio is the founder of thehumans independent industrial design consulting initiative, serving the clients with his extensive international experience and know-how in the design business.
His ethos is to inspire an intuitive sustainability-centered mindset drive for creativity. His constantly evolving collaborative process is enhanced by a distinctive aesthetic and exceptional engineering and technology know-how in tandem to humanize social sciences with unique service design.
Sampaio has worked worldwide on his journey to becoming an expert in industrial design and service
design, gaining extensive experience in a diverse range of industries.
A senior consultant thirty six times international award-winner with over 30 years in the design business, helping companies and design agencies along with their clients, building a reputation for good design.
With Industrial Design education in Lisbon, Paris and Milan, Sampaio has worked, lectured and taught in Europe, Asia and Southeast Asia.
Sampaio was born in Mozambique, Africa. He got his Master’s in Industrial Design (MA) from IADE, in Lisbon, Portugal. Studied Product Design at the École National Supérior de Création Industrielle, Les Ateliers in Paris and the Domus Academy in Milan.
He is a visiting professor at the Lisbon Fine Arts School Design Academy and taught at Lisbon Lusiada University along with Lusofona University. Sampaio was the speaker and lecturer at TDC, Taiwan Design Center, TAITRA, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Computex, and the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

of all times.
The quality of his work has been recognized globally by his peers on numerous occasions including a red-dot: “best-of-the-best”, several red-dot and iFAwards, the IDSA's Gold IDEA and the German Designprise.
